For You, O Lord, bless the righteous man [the one who is in right standing with You]; You surround him with favor as with a shield. ~Psalm 5:12 AMP
I have heard many Christians say, “favor ain’t favor” In fact, I have made this statement numerous times myself. Over time, my thoughts concerning this statement have evolved. One of the things that I love about God is that He is constantly revealing Himself to us, if and when we are paying attention.
As Believers, we can only live by and stand on the truth that we know. There is a truth found in Psalm 5:12 that my spirit caught a hold of one day. That truth declares, “For You, O Lord, bless the righteous man [the one who is in right standing with You]; You surround him with favor as with a shield.” I said wait a minute God, Your favor is available to ME? I thought favor wasn’t fair. He said, “Who told you that? Are you the righteous?” I said yes Lord, I am. “Then my favor is resting on you,” He whispered.
From that moment on, I began to stand on the revelation that because I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, favor is surrounding me. Glory to God! That is good Gospel news my sister. In spite of me, but because of Him, according to Galatians 2:16, HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS was IMPUTED unto ME. Now that’s a good place to shout right there.
Recognizing and embracing His righteousness qualifies me for His favor. I don’t know about you, but I thank God for the revelation found in His written and spoken word. No longer do I worry about someone else being more favored by God than I am. I know beyond a shadow of doubt that I have been adopted into His righteous family (Galatians 4:4-5). So the next time you hear the statement, “favor ain’t favor,” do as I do, just smile to yourself resting in the assurance that your righteousness is not of you, but of Him.
You my sister are favored by the Father. Go ahead and thank Him today for the free gift of salvation that positions you in righteousness and causes His favor to surround you as with a shield.
